A Guided Tour Through The Creative Process

Problem solving is a critical skill in art. The creative process is replete with unpredictable twists and turns, and it is often difficult to reverse engineer an artist's process when you only get to see the finished work. In this class, Marco takes you by the hand and guides you, from start to finish, through his process of painting an improvised, yet cohesive fantasy environment. Along the way he talks in depth about how the foundations of art serve as touchstones upon which to build, and how to tune your mindset to the task of discovering a new idea. Marco also takes an aside to demonstrate his Photoshop brushes as well as his methods of using them to mimic the look and feel of traditional media.

In this class you will learn:

  • Insight into the four fundamentals of painting: drawing, value, edges, and color

  • What to look for to create the biggest possible 'punch' with your images

  • How to make brushstrokes that add charisma to your paintings

  • Enable yourself to navigate the creative process and discover new concepts

  • Methods of telling a visual story within a picture

  • Develop a solid mindset that fosters confidence in your workflow

  • Learn a non-technical, artistic approach to using Adobe Photoshop

I was initially taken aback to how long each lesson was but I got immersed to Marco's process as I went with the lessons. He shares a lot of tips that are especially helpful to those beginning at digital painting. I used to feel overwhelmed and intimidated by the blank canvas but Marco's way of doing personal art is more about going with the flow and the feel of your brush so I found myself actually enjoying painting in Photoshop for the first time in a while. Plus his brush are also divine. I definitely recommend this course to everyone!

I had to stop about half an hour in to the first video to process all of the new things I had learned. There is so many insights I have recieved from every video on painting as an art form. As a young artist who has been working in digital for a few years, this has changed the way I see painting and gotten me more focused on what I really want to get out of this medium. There are also many techniques and guidelines I have received that I will likely use in all my future work, if not most. If you are taking this course, keep a large notebook handy. You won't want to forget any of this. Thank you so, so much Marco.
